Last week, we played some theater games and talked about the origins of theater. We played a game where we had to be one monster as a group and give one same answer. We built teamwork and trust. The other game we played was the hitchhiker. We became a hitchhiker, a driver, or a passenger. The game ends if the driver kicks the hitchhiker out of the car. It was a entertaining improv game.
After we played some games, we talked about how theater originated. I think it was the Greeks who originated theater. But there were people who said that the Stone Age was the origin, or the the theater originated from Greek but the concept of story telling was from the Stone Age. It was interesting to here what people think about.

This week, we mainly played theater games. When we did "What are you doing?", it was fascinating to see how people interpret different actions in different ways. The emotion party was very fun because we got to act out various emotions. But in some of the scenes, I could see some miss communication of emotions and I noticed that you have to have clear expression in you face more than your voice and actions.

This week, we played more theater games and more improvising. some of the games we played do you like your neighbor, emotion party, television channel, stop-go jump, quick change, twin interview, and conductor. For the conductor, one person is the conductor of the orchestra, and if they point at someone, they get to tell the sentence. We tell a story by one sentence each. Our group’s story was about a birthday party for a chimpanzee and the stolen cake. The twin interview is where we make a group of 3, 2 people are twins and one person is the interviewer. They will ask questions to the twins and the twins have to be able to answer them at the same time without planning it. My twin was Anna. The stop-go jump game was interesting. Everyone’s interpretation of why we played the game was different. I thought it was to be aware of spaces. Other people thought it was about opening yourself and not feeling embarrassed, or training not to laugh on stage.
We did two improvising piece this week. One was seen from a photo. Everyone brought in a memorial photo from their life and improvised the picture. This game was interesting because the director interprets the picture different than others. The other game is the real-life scene. The directer will tell a short fast real life story and direct the casts. It is all improvising. I acted as Sofia and Nicoletta were Luke. This game was interesting because you know the characters.

The games we played this week were Statement cards, MacGyver, and Moose. Statement cards is where you write a statement or a question on each card and mix all the card together. As you improvise a scene you pick one card each from the pile. You have to use the statement on the card in the scene. It was an enjoyable game because the card messes up the scene and often times it doesn't make any sense. We have to improvise to make sense. MacGyver is a game where you become MacGyver and make it through a problem. MacGyver is a private detective who uses random household items to save people from bad people. We were given 3 objects and, a setting, and a problem. We had to improvise the scene and solve the problem by using the 3 objects. It was challenging because we had to improvise, solve a problem, and work with a partner at the same time. I think communication and creative thinking was the key to this activity.

I, you, we is a game where we get in two lines. Line A starts a sentence with I, Line B starts a sentence with You, then Line A ends a scene with We. It was difficult because we had to think of the response with a decided starter. Instant character was where we made a circle and one person says a name, the next person says an adjective, the third says a job, then the fourth person acts it out. It was interesting to see how people acting out random characters people created. I noticed that there are many variations of character we can create on the spot.
We learned that to create a character, starting with a prop, voice, job, animal, or a verb is the fastest and the easiest way.
